Grading the Gulley. Pictures of the house site.

Seth has to move dirt from other areas on the property to fill in the gulley to the left of the driveway.  It is amazing how much dirt it really takes to fill in a large hole!

The picture on the right above is the gulley we are filling in to the left of the driveway

the panaroma is of the actual house site, you can see its distance off the road on the far left.

More Clearing/ Grading

Seth is really making good progress with the driveway! There is also a pretty big pile of brush/trees starting to build up.  We will be burning this in the future.

Planting the first grass

To keep erosion under control, we began to plant some fescue and rye along the bank by the future driveway.  The first beginnings of our lawn!

Grading the Driveway Continues

The grading of the driveway is an ongoing process, but is coming along!

The Clearing and Grading Begins

Using a few pieces of equipment, Seth began the clearing of the house site, front pasture and the driveway to the house. The biggest feat to tackle is the driveway as a gully is perfectly positioned in the front yard.  There was also a lot of Kudzu to fight off!

Finding the perfect piece of property

We knew that we wanted to own several acres as we did before so that we could have room to spread out and have our larger "family" members (horses, cows, goats) on our own property.  A larger piece of land at a price we could afford is alot harder to come by as we looked closer to Atlanta but we managed to find this little gem nestled in a neighborhood on the north end of Flowery Branch, GA
It was almost 11 acres!  The land had many elevation changes so it was never used as part of the neighborhood due to the grading that would have had to be accomplished before building. Lucky for us- Seth has experience in grading and his family owns a grading business! After about a month or so- we closed on the land in mid August 2014.

The Big Move

After careful thought, Seth and I decided to sell our  much loved home in Clarkesville for the opportunity of moving to a new city and me (Katie) starting a new job.  Our house sold quickly and we packed all of our belongings up into a large van trailer (pulled behind a tractor trailer) and moved the remaining items into a storage unit. There they will sit until we can move into our dream house sometime hopefully soon.  First step- build a new house!
